This document defines the tier structure used by the IJCAI to allocate PPI (Primary Paper Initiative income) benefits to IJCAI reviewers, recognizing the level of contribution each reviewer made to the program.
We will recognize three tiers of reviewers: Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Gold Tier
Audience: Program Committee members (PCs) and Senior Program Committee members (SPCs) who went beyond their initial assignment.
Criteria — all of the following must be met:
- Completed every mandatory phase of the review process on time:
- Bidding
- Submission of all assigned reviews
- Active leadership in the author–reviewer discussion phase
- Took on additional review assignments beyond the original allocation (e.g. covering for non-responsive reviewers, accepting emergency reassignments from the SPC/PC chairs, or reviewing extra papers during the meta-review stage).
- Reviews were of substantive quality, not merely submitted to clear the queue.
NOTE: A review is deemed of substantial/acceptable quality unless serious concerns about the review were raised during the reviewing period.
Benefit: Full conference registration
Silver Tier
Audience: Reviewers who were reliable on their core duties but did not complete the full set of process steps — typically because they joined the review process late, or because circumstances prevented participation in every phase.
Criteria — for SPC:
- Delivered all assigned reviews
- Started the discussion for all papers
- Bid timely and properly
- evaluated all submitted reviews
Criteria — for PC:
- Delivered all assigned reviews (≥5) on time
- Participated in the discussion.
- Bid timely and properly if they had the opportunity
- Reviews were of acceptable quality, not merely submitted to clear the queue
Criteria — for Emergency Reviewer:
- Acted as an emergency reviewer taking on more than two (≥3) papers at short notice and
- delivered them on time.
- Reviews were of acceptable quality, not merely submitted to clear the queue
NOTE: A review is deemed of acceptable quality unless serious concerns about the review were raised during the reviewing period.
Benefit:50% registration discount
Rationale: These reviewers absorbed real risk for the program — late-onboarded reviewers and short-notice emergency reviewers are the buffer that keeps the schedule from major disruptions. They merit recognition even when they could not engage with every phase.
Bronze Tier
Audience: Contributors — including authors of submitted papers — who stepped in to help with a small number of emergency reviews on short notice.
Criteria — for PC:
- Delivered all assigned reviews on time (3-4 reviews)
- Reviews were of acceptable quality, not merely submitted to clear the queue
Criteria — for Emergency Reviewers:
- Provided one-two (1-2) emergency reviews within a short turnaround window.
- Reviews were submitted on time
- Reviews were of acceptable quality, not merely submitted to clear the queue
NOTE: A review is deemed of acceptable quality unless serious concerns about the review were raised during the reviewing period.
Benefit:25% registration discount.
All discounts are applicable to early registration rates ONLY and cannot be combined with membership discount! Discounts are not transferrable as they represent rewards for an individual effort provided during the reviewing period. The remaining/unused funds will be moved to the next year’s pot and used to support next year’s reviewers.
Please note that this benefit applies only to the early main-conference registration fee (and not to optional additional items), cannot be combined with membership discounts, and is non-transferable, as it is intended to recognize your personal contribution during the reviewing process. Any unused PPI funds will be carried over to support reviewers for future IJCAI editions.
