Bremen Central Station (Bremen Hauptbahnhof / Bremen Hbf) is the city’s main railway station and a central hub for regional, national and long-distance rail services. Bremen is connected to the German rail network by ICE, IC and EC services, with connections to major cities such as Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and Hannover, as well as onward international connections (Basel, Zurich, …).
For planning train journeys to Bremen, participants should search for Bremen Hbf in railway booking systems and check current connections before travelling. Deutsche Bahn provides live departure and station information for Bremen Hbf. Advance booking is recommended, especially for long-distance trains, as lower fares may sell out and trains can be very busy. Seat reservations are optional on most trains within Germany, but strongly recommended for long-distance journeys, especially during peak travel periods or when the demand indicator shows high occupancy.
Several hotel options are available within walking distance of Bremen Central Station. For participants attending the main conference, the station is particularly convenient: the Congress Centrum Bremen (CCB) is only a few steps away and can be reached on foot via the north exit. The station forecourt also provides direct connections to Bremen’s tram and bus network. Participants travelling to the University of Bremen for workshops and tutorials can continue from Bremen Central Station by public transport using tram.
Getting around in Bremen

Bremen is a convenient city to explore by walking, especially in and around the city centre. Many hotels, restaurants, cultural sites and transport connections are located close to one another, making walking a practical option for short trips during the conference.
Cycling is also a common way to get around Bremen. The city has a well-established cycling culture, and rental bikes are available from several providers and locations across the city. Participants who plan to use a bicycle should follow local traffic rules and use designated cycle lanes where available.
E-scooters are available in Bremen through app-based sharing services (Lime, Dott). They can be useful for short individual trips, but participants should check the operating area in the respective app and park only in permitted locations so that pavements, entrances and public transport stops remain accessible.
Providers and availability may change.
Bremen’s public transport network is operated by BSAG and includes trams and buses throughout the city. Tram line 6 is particularly useful for IJCAI-ECAI 2026 participants, as it connects Bremen Airport, the city centre, Bremen Central Station, the Congress Center Bremen and the University of Bremen.
For journey planning and digital tickets, participants can use the FahrPlaner app. Tickets can also be purchased directly on board BSAG trams and buses. Cashless payment options are widely available, including contactless cards and mobile payment services such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Public transport services run less frequently in the evenings and at weekends. Night services are available on selected routes, but operate at much longer intervals than daytime services. Participants should check current connections in the FahrPlaner app before travelling, especially for evening events, weekend travel or late-night journeys.
